Mini-Symposium

E. Experimental and Numerical Behavior of Membranes and Biomembranes

Membrane structures are load adaptive, as they change their geometry to accommodate external loads with the minimum variation in stress levels. Membranes are found on all living beings as well as in several engineering applications. They are successively used to model several soft tissues. Lately there has been a growing interest in the experimental and numerical analysis of membranes, although several problems are still unsolved, due to their highly nonlinear behavior and the difficulty found in characterizing the material.

This symposium intends to congregate researchers and students interested in subjects such as characterization of soft tissues, indentation, non-linear vibrations and control, stability and bifurcation, nanostructures, experimental techniques, applications of non-linear mechanics, and related subjects in all branches of science and engineering.

Support: ABCM Nonlinear Phenomena and Biomechanical Engineering Committees.
